Following six weeks of hard work, 100 groups from around Derby have been successfully recorded as part of 'The17 - Slice Through Derby'  project.

Internationally renowned artist and musician Bill Drummond was invited to create a unique performance piece to celebrate QUAD and particularly its location in Derby. Drummond was based in the city for six weeks during June and July working on the piece with members of the community and the recording stage of the project is now complete.

100 groups from all areas of the city were recruited to take part in the project, which involved singing one note together for five minutes and having a group photograph and video portrait taken.

These 100 separate sound recordings will mix together to create one huge piece of choral music. Everyone who has taken part in the project has been invited to the culmination of the project, a special performance event on the Market Place in Derby on 22nd August to hear the one and only playback of the piece. On the same night the participants will be QUAD's special guests at a private view reception and personal tour of the new QUAD building, this will give participants the opportunity to view their photograph and film in the exhibition throughout QUAD before the building is open to the general public.

"The performance in Derby stemed from an idea that Drummond had been working on for a few years" commented QUAD's senior curator Louise Clements. "We're delighted that so many people joined in with this opportunity to be involved with a unique and ground breaking project by an incredible internationally renowned artist."
