Derby Well Dressing

Well Dressing production

As usual, QUAD is organising the annual Derby Well Dressing, which is taking place on the Market Place in June.

Well Dressing is a traditional custom, all but unique to Derbyshire, of decorating wells and springs with pictures made from flowers and plants set into clay filled frames.

This year the theme for the Derby Well Dressing is 'The Ram', inspired by the folklore of the Derbyshire ram that was the largest in the country - this led to the widespread use of the ram as a symbol for Derby.

There will be demonstrations and opportunities to have a go yourself during the production of the Well Dressing, then a celebration event at the end of the week with the finished work on display.

Derby Well Dressing Demonstration Monday 16th - Friday 20th June 2008 10am-4pm in the Guildhall Clubroom, off the Market Place. It's free to take part, so come in and see for yourself!

Celebration event with the completed Well Dressing, music and special guests Saturday 21st June at 11am, by the water fountain on the Market Place.
