Slam Poetry Night Celebrates The News

All That Fits exhibition

There will be a one-off 'Slam Poetry' Night based on news headlines from Radio, Television and Newspapers in QUAD on Wednesday 22nd June. QUAD's regular Poetry performance group, who meet monthly in QUAD, will host the one-off event, improvising news headlines in a 'slam' poetry style. NEWS Poetry Night is free and open to all to come along or participate, from 8:00pm.

The NEWS Poetry Night will launch the opening of the 2nd Chapter of the exhibition All that Fits: The Aesthetics of Journalism: 'The Image'. The exhibition presents the provocative idea that art and journalism are two sides of a unique activity; the production and distribution of images and information.

The exhibition brings to the surface how images and information are communicated, and the aesthetic principles used in the act of transmission. Whereas journalism provides a view on the world, as it 'really' is, art often presents a view on the view, as an act of reflection. All that Fits: The Aesthetics of Journalism will examine both as systems of information that define truth in terms of the visible but also what can be imagined.

QUAD's monthly Poetry Night is a performance night which includes styles from rap to traditional verse and comedy from poets of all ages. QUAD's Poetry Night MC is Les Baynton, a published poet whose work has been broadcast on BBC Radio's Poetry Corner and Talking Poetry.
