The Muppet Christmas Carol

QUAD will be embracing the festive season with a selection of events for all ages during December, from Christmas shopping, live theatre, story-telling, school choirs, film screenings and free films in the BFI Mediatheque.

For those looking for that perfect gift, the Don't Panic Gift Bazaar returns to QUAD on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd December. Come and browse the stalls throughout the building, which will be selling original crafts, locally made products and all things festive that could make the perfect present. There will be mince pies and mulled wine on offer, plus a digital QUAD grotto with a variety of scenes set up for people to have their photo taken for a Christmas card. For those looking for a unique gift for Christmas, QUAD Gift vouchers can be purchased for: QUAD Cinema Tickets and annual QUAD Membership.

QUAD's Christmas Spirits event, presented by Alt.Fiction, offers a night of traditional terror and Christmas chills with an evening of classic ghost stories. Featuring a host of Victorian tales designed to chill you to the bone, all presented by Sustained Magic Theatre Company, Christmas Spirits is the perfect event for fans of classic literature and spooky chills. Book sales and raffle will be available at the event, as well as mince pies and mulled wine. Christmas Spirits is suitable for ages 12 and above and takes place on Friday 9th December at 7:30pm and Thursday 15th December at 7:30pm, Tickets, available from QUAD Box office, are: £9.00 full price, £8.00 Concession and £7.00 QUAD members.

1623 theatre company will be presenting a wintry Shakespearean evening in QUAD, as Joseph Wright's 1793 painting - based on a moment in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale - comes to life through theatrical performance and digital art. Performed as part of the Wright of Derby Festival, The Winter's Tale takes place in QUAD on Friday 16th December at 7:30pm. Tickets are free but need to be booked in advance through QUAD Box office.

Amongst the latest releases QUAD Cinema will be screening two Christmas favourites for all the family. The ultimate Christmas classic, Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life (U) stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a thoroughly decent family man who has sacrificed his dreams for the citizens of the small town of Bedford Falls. On Christmas Eve, his guardian angel Clarence is assigned to help convince the desperate George how many lives his good deeds have touched. It's A Wonderful Life (U) screens on Sunday 18th December and from Tuesday 20th until Saturday 24th December.

For some Christmas fun, join Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and the entire cast of the Muppet universe as they re-tell Charles Dicken's classic 'A Christmas Carol' in The Muppet Christmas Carol (U).Michael Caine is Ebenezer Scrooge in a world of muppety magic and the 'Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and yet to come'. The Muppet Christmas Carol screens from Thursday 22nd until Saturday 24th December.

The BFI Mediatheque at QUAD will be offering some free festive entertainment with specially themed collections of films, Santa's Grotto and A Ghost Story for Christmas. Santa's Grotto Collection, including striking Santa's (Father Christmas Union, 1972), spending Christmas Day in the Workhouse (1914), or season's greetings from the celebrities of yesteryear in British yuletide TV of the past with the best examples of the Christmas Variety Show. A new collection, A Ghost Story for Christmas, are some of the BBC's annual TV dramas from the 1970s, these atmospheric Victorian and Edwardian set played with the power of suggestion to deliver festive chills. The BFI Mediatheque at QUAD is free to use, just ask at QUAD Box office for details.

School Choirs will be entertaining the public in QUAD in December. Children from local schools will be singing festive favourites in QUAD Monday 12th to Thursday 15th December from 6:00pm - 6:30pm. There is no charge to come and hear the choirs.

There will be festive fare on offer in the QUAD Café bar during December including mince pies and Christmas cupcakes, as well as mulled wine and noir themed cocktails. Celebrate the season with friends for early evening tapas and wine or call in for a coffee and a reprieve from the Christmas shopping!

QUAD will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. QUAD's Christmas opening times will vary slightly over the festive period.
