New Arts & Crafts Courses for Adults

QUAD

QUAD is offering some new courses in Traditional Arts And Crafts this Autumn including Contemporary Jewellery Making, Textiles and Drawing. The courses have been introduced due to popular demand and are suitable for beginners or practioners.

Commencing on 21st September, Contemporary Jewellery Making is a five week course suitable for anyone interested in making their own jewellery from those with no previous experience as well as more experienced makers. Each week the course will show participants how to design and construct a different piece of jewellery, for example a necklace or earrings - including how to select the correct fixings and beads. Participants are just asked to bring four pieces of old, unwanted, ugly or broken jewellery to deconstruct on week one, otherwise all materials are provided. The course will be run by Jeni Smith, an artist trained in Textiles, Embroidery, Fine Art and Photography with over 20 years teaching experience.

The Contemporary Jewellery Making course runs in QUAD from 21st September until 19th October on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm until 8:30pm. The cost is £105 or £85 concessions.

A five week course in Textiles will run in November aimed at people who love gorgeous textiles and would like to know what kind of materials they may need to make their own creations. Each week the course will expand on new techniques to result in a final piece of work. Participants are just asked to bring pictures or samples of the types of textiles they like, scissors and a sewing kit may be useful but otherwise the course will provide all equipment. The course will be run by Jeni Smith.

The Textiles course will run in QUAD from 2nd November until 29th November on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm until 8:30pm.The cost is £105 or £85 concessions.

Finally, a five week Drawing course will focus on practical drawing projects, including exercises based on simple line-drawing techniques, introducing the study of shape, form and shading, using pencil, charcoal and white chalk, pen and wash exercises. Interesting still life compositions will be provided each week and ending with a life drawing class looking at the human body. The course is suitable for beginners or those with some drawing experience. The course will be run by Sam Malone, a highly experienced 2D and 3D classical and computer based animator and designer who started her career at the Walt Disney animation studio in Paris. Sam currently works on a variety of Motion Graphic projects including Animation, Illustrative and Photographic work. She also lectures in drawing & visualisation & animation at Derby University.

The Drawing course will run in QUAD from 7th November until 5th December on Monday evenings from 6:15pm until 8:45pm. The cost is £105 or £85 concessions.
