SoundTrack Derby - share your music with the world!

SoundTrack Derby Logo

"What does your Derby sound like?"

This summer, QUAD is producing a mass participation project called 'SoundTrack Derby' creating music to share with the world - and offering the chance for anyone to get involved.

Participants can record the sounds of 'your Derby', for example this could be The Guildhall clock, dogs barking, doors slamming or even peas rubbing together, whatever you can come up with! These sounds will be recorded on people's mobile phones or QUAD's digital recorders. They can be then uploaded directly to the SoundTrack Derby' website www.soundtrackderby.co.uk or emailed to: sounds@soundtrackderby.co.uk to create a bank of Derby sounds.

Participants can also be involved on a second level to make a track, by selecting from SoundTrack's online bank of sounds and loading them into the website's sequencer. Participants will be able to share the track through social media; Twitter and Facebook. The aim is to create brand new pieces of music using the sound samples uploaded by the people of Derby.

The public will be able to vote on their favourite track, with prizes for the winners. In addition there will be a final performance in Derby Market Place on Saturday 22nd October using the BBC Big Screen. The most popular 'as voted for' online tracks will be performed on the evening.

QUAD will be running FREE 'SoundTrack Derby' workshops until October. These workshops are open to groups - everybody from work colleagues looking for a playful activity in your office to school groups that would like to learn about sound. The free sound workshops will include sound recording, social media sharing and online sound mixing for the group. Please contact: hello@soundtrackderby.co.uk   or see www.soundtrackderby.co.uk to book a workshop or for more details.

There will be two special Twilight events in September at QUAD, for a chance to hunt down and capture the night time sounds of Derby! Using mobile phones or digital recorders to capture the sound of the city at night, then download them back at QUAD, and create your own unique Derby SoundTrack. The free twilight events will take place on Tuesday 6th September from 6:30pm to 9:00pm Thursday 15th September, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.
