Derby Soap Opera - we need YOU!

The Derby Soap Opera

QUAD is offering a chance to become part of Derby Soap Opera, which aims to be the world's largest ever mass participation film.  Every resident of Derby will have the opportunity to take part in a film directed by the internationally renowned Italian artist Marinella Senatore.

QUAD are inviting everyone to take part; to become the actors, singers and dancers, stage directors, costume designers, make-up artists or lighting technicians in what will become the most ambitious project for the city to date.

Throughout February and March QUAD will be running a series of free workshops for Derby's residents to develop the skills to make the Derby Soap Opera film. These include workshops in script writing, camera operating, directing photography, creating sound and music for film, video editing, acting and dancing. The workshops will be taking place from 22nd February until 17th March but places are limited and need to be reserved.

Marinella Senatore is contemporary artist who has illuminated the films of Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti and Bob Fosse and is considered one of the most influential and widely revered Directors of Photography of the 20th century. Senatore has exhibited widely at institutions including the 54th Venice Biennale and the New York New Museum. Her work takes the form of crowd-sourced installations and films often in location-specific projects which involve thousands of people.

Marinella will be holding introductory talks about the Derby Soap Opera project in QUAD on Tuesday 21st February at 12:00 noon and 6:00pm. The talks are free and open to all, but places need to be booked through QUAD Box Office.

The Derby Soap Opera film set will form an exhibition in QUAD Gallery from 12th May until 8th July, and screenings of the film will take place in June, July and at a Derby Festé Gala screening in September.
