Young Parents' Artwork on Display

Listen Love Learn

Artwork created by young parents who attended creative workshops at QUAD has gone on display at the Maternity Unit at Royal Derby Hospital.

A banner has been made from ‘Beautiful Poem Books’ which were created by young parents as part of ‘Listen Love Learn’ workshops at QUAD. The banner aims to brighten up the long hours that the ladies and partners spend pacing the corridors of the Maternity Unit.

Charlotte Convey, QUAD’s Arts & Health Co-ordinator who runs the weekly ‘Listen Love Learn’ workshops, said “Exhibiting the work has a positive impact not only for the young artists but also the audience that  view the work – as the experiences and emotions shared are pertinent to the circumstance that brings them together, whether as a parent, family, friend or midwife. One of the midwives at the Royal Derby Hospital Maternity Unit has told me how poignant and moving she found the prose on the banners.”

QUAD in Derby run the weekly creative ‘Listen Love Learn’ workshops for new and expectant young parents aged up to 25 years, with babies of up to 24 months. The free workshops provide a supportive environment the young parents, and a chance to meet others, learn skills, share experiences and to be creative. The workshops are part of an Arts4Health project.
