Q Arts presents, Depth of Field, a touring exhibition from mac in Birmingham, curated by Marlene Little (Course Director, BA Hons Textile Design at the University of Central England), and Alex Boyd (Exhibitions programmer at mac.)
This pioneering exhibition creates an opportunity to explore a number of interactions between photography and textiles within contemporary practice. Both emergent and established artists from the UK and Australasia have been brought together to highlight this crossover. Like all stimulating conversations, the visual stories by each of the artists are diverse, challenging and often unexpected.
The degree of engagement varies; for example, one artist has translated video imagery onto a textile surface. Other artists have presented both photography and textiles as an installation. Some works include laser technology, ultrasound and digital sources but there are also pieces that involve traditional hand crafted techniques. The range of work presented creates a challenging and engaging dialogue for the viewer.
vThis exhibition provides a platform for discussion around a subject matter previously unexplored. Artists featured include Janet Stoyel, Michael Brennand-Wood, Shelly Goldsmith, Patrick Snelling, Marcus Bunyan, Mark Wayland, Suzanne Hale, Deborah Crowe, Renata Savasi, Mary Maclean, Bharti Parmar, Marlene Little, Heledd Jones, Liz Rideal and Liz Williamson. For Depth of Field artists have been commissioned to deisgn an activity in response to the exhibition. Come along to the gallery during normal opening hours and help to create a patchwork-photo quilt. Free and suitbale for all ages.
