Derby Well Dressings 2008
Artists: QUAD artists
Venue: Guildhall and Market Place, Derby
Date: June 2008
QUAD organised the annual Derby Well Dressing, which took place on the Market Place in June. Well Dressing is a traditional custom, all but unique to Derbyshire, of decorating wells and springs with pictures made from flowers and plants set into clay filled frames. This year the theme for the Derby Well Dressing was 'The Ram' - inspired by the folklore of a Derbyshire ram that was the largest in the country - this led to the widespread use of the ram as a symbol for Derby. There was demonstrations and opportunities to have a go during the production of the Well Dressing, then a celebration event at the end of the week with the finished work on display - which was introduced by Simon Groome (pictured).
