Emergency Shakespeare
Artists: 1623 Theatre Company and St. John's Ambulance
Venue: Around QUAD
Date: Saturday 24th October 2009
If you have ever wondered what would have happened if Romeo had called in help when he first found Juliet in the tomb, or if Ophelia had been dragged out of the stream and given the kiss of life, then you should have come to see Emergency Shakespeare at QUAD!
Throughout the day in various free performances, St John Ambulance saved the Shakespearean day with local five-star 1623 theatre company (www.1623theatre.co.uk), who perform Shakespeare in non-traditional theatre spaces.
1623 performed 8 accident scenes from Shakespeare, each lasting 10-15 minutes, with St John's Ambulance responding to the accidents!
The performances included:
The Winter's Tale (panic attack)
Hamlet (drowning)
Othello (epilepsy)
Romeo and Juliet (multiple emergencies) - pictured
Crowds gathered for the performances, which were very well received and a really interesting twist on traditional Shakespeare.
