The theme of the festival was PHOTOCINEMA. From film still to still film the theme for FORMAT09 is positioned in the half-light between these two narrative and technical sensibilities, colliding - fact with fiction, historicism with fantasy, and reality with the cinematic.

FORMAT is the UK’s leading contemporary photography and media festival that celebrates the wealth of contemporary practice in photography from over 30 countries.

With 200+ photographers, 20 venues and 4 weeks -FORMAT is the place to see an incredible range of new work alongside the best known practitioners of the world.
