Communicating observations of the world has always been central to art and science. Artists have exploited photography, film and graphic design tools for years, while modern imaging techniques have enabled scientists to reveal some of the world’s most incredible structures magnified many million times. But do they present a scientific ‘truth’? Can we call scientific images ‘art’?
These questions are explored in Truth and Beauty a new exhibition featuring the 2002 Biomedical Imaging Award winners. We see a tumour feeding off a blood vessel, what happens in our brain when we recognize a familiar face and footprints in agar that continue to grow long after we go. A stunning collection of images that reflects the symbiotic relationship between truth and beauty. Truth and Beauty is curated by Two Ten Gallery at The Wellcome Trust.
