  • Director Jonathan Teplitzky
  • Origin UK
  • Year 2017
  • Duration 98 minutes

Railway Man director, Teplitzky tackles one of Britain’s most prominent and complex icons, Winston Churchill during a nail-bitingly crucial stage of World War II.

Churchill tells the story of the 48 hours before the 1944 D-Day landings. Allied Forces stand on the brink with a massive army secretly assembled on Britain’s south coast, poised to re-take Nazi-occupied Europe but waiting for Churchill’s potentially triumphant – or utterly disastrous – OK.

Brian Cox tackles the role of Churchill, a man of rousing speeches and a background of military failures, as he weighs the pros and cons of sending so many troops onto the beaches. With Miranda Richardson as Churchill’s wife Clementine, John Slattery as Eisenhower, James Purefoy as King George VI and Ella Purnell as Churchill’s young secretary.
