Hysteria tells an untold tale of discovery - the surprising story of the birth of the electro-mechanical vibrator at the very peak of Victorian prudishness. Forward thinking Dr Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy) is hired by Dr Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce) in his treating of women suffering from hysteria. His career puts him in the path of Dalrymple’s firebrand daughter Charlotte (Maggie Gyllenhaal), social reformer and passionate woman’s rights activist.
