Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham) makes a deeply personal film as she tells the story of the last Viceroy of India and the time when the country was given back to its people. Hugh Bonneville plays Lord Mountbatten, resident of the Viceroy’s House. Upstairs he lives with his wife (Gillian Anderson) and daughter while downstairs reside their 500 Hindu, Muslim and Sikh servants.
This film follows the handover as the political elite converge on the house to resolve the situation that marked the end of an Empire, and the birth of a new nation. With Manish Dayal, Huma Qureshi, Om Puri (in his final role), Simon Callow and Michael Gambon.
Also showing as Midweek Treat.
There will be a subtitled screening on Tue 7th March at 6.05pm.
