Filmmaking Basics

A four-week course on Tuesday evenings

9th March – 30th March 2010
6:00pm - 8:30pm

Cost: £120 full price / £96 concessions inc VAT

Suitable for ages 16+

Location: Square Group Mac Suite

This is a basic course for beginners, covering basic camera, shooting and editing skills.  The course will involve mainly practical activities resulting in students planning, shooting and editing a three minute short film or advert.  There will also be stand up demonstration and teaching as well as smaller activities.  Students will use Apple Mac computer systems for editing their product in iMovie.  This course concentrates on the basic visual aspects of filmmaking, with not much emphasis on sound recording.

Intermediate level Screenwriting

An eight-week course on Tuesday evenings

13th April - 8th June 2010 6:00pm - 8:30pm

Cost: £185 full price / £148 concessions inc VAT

Location: QUAD, Meeting Room

Applicants for this course will already be well versed in the basics of screenwriting and will understand what is meant by Industry Standard Formatting, Visual Writing, Character Development, Story Structure and Plot Development.

You will already have a basic story premise for your short or feature film, which over eight weeks we will workshop to develop into a full short film script (up to 30 pages), or in the case of feature films will be developed into a professional standard five page treatment. This will entail a time commitment from you to write at home between sessions.

Acceptance onto the course is by submission. Email one premise or a short synopsis (max 500 words) to: dariusp@derbyquad.co.uk by 26th March. Successful applicants will be informed by 2nd April 2010. 

Intro to Adobe Photoshop

A four-week course on Wednesday evenings.

21st April 2010 – 12th May 2010
6:00pm – 8:30pm

Suitable for ages 16+

The course is ideal for anyone who is interested in learning the basics of Photoshop. The course will be a combination of demonstrations, tutorials and project briefs. Areas covered include: Understanding Photoshop interface, Transforming Images, Scanning, Using Layers, Masking, Filters, Basic Animation and more.

Intro to Adobe Illustrator

Introduction to Video Editing using Final Cut Pro

A four-week course on Tuesday evenings.

This is a basic, beginners course for people who have never
edited using Final Cut Pro before. The course will take place on
Apple Mac computer systems and some basic knowledge of
computers is recommended. This course will be a mixture of stand
up demonstration, teaching and practice activities for students.
