Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale (1820 - 1910) is known as the Lady with the Lamp, famous for her work in the military hospitals of the Crimea and for establishing nursing as a respectable profession for women. Florence spent her summer holidays at Lea in Derbyshire and a statue of her stands outside the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary on London Road in Derby. Florence was created with the help of Year 2 pupils at Derwent Primary School.
