During the 'My City, My Derby' open submission photography competition in September 2008, young people were asked to send in images in response to 'views of your local area' and 'hopes for your city and your future'.

The images on this page are by 15 year old Anna Campbell.

"I asked my friends to dress up as stereotypical teens and I shot the photographs at our local playing fields. The stereotypes depicted include 'emo', 'punk', 'chav' and 'posh totty' whose lifestyles and cultures clash with one another. As my friends represent such a wide variety of stereotypes in reality, I thought that they would be a great representation of the variety within our city.

I chose to shoot the photographs at our park instead of using city scapes because it is where my friends and I spend most of our free time. I wanted to illustrate how although we are all so different, young people are united through one common interest; socialising. The park is one of the very few places where teens can do this freely and without threat. Our collective hopes for our future and the future of our city are that teens will be recognised not for the stereotypes that we are given but for putting aside our differences, getting on and enjoying our time together."
