Derby Feste - October 2007

The cultural organisations of Derby joined forces to mark the opening of Westfield and organised Derby Feste on Saturday 13th October 2007. A whole range of spectacular events took place throughout the city.

During the day, the Market Place was host to The Big M, a huge inflatable structure that contained an exciting range of video and digital media installations.

The evening began with a special musical performance organised by Derby Jazz. People were then invited to follow a trail around the city following the spectacular Catalonian Sarruga Dragons, that breathed real fire and smoke!

As the dragons arrived in the Market Place, in the shadow of the new QUAD building, there was an exciting finale of fire and fantasy.

Alongside all the above, a special programme of film, photography and interactive activites took place on the BBC Big Screen. QUAD also launched the We The People exhibition, which was unveiled on the building site hoardings. This exhibition featured portraits of the people of Derby taken throughout the summer by a number of professional photographers.

The celebrations then moved to Derby Dance, where a dazzling burlesque themed party 'Hurly Burly' brought the glamour and glitz of Paris to Derby!
