Cannes Film Festival

Red Carpet

QUAD's Film Programmer Sally Griffith has recently returned from the Cannes Film Festival - a research trip to ensure we're planning to bring the best independent, world and Hollywood films to QUAD

"This year's Cannes was one of sunshine and showers - both in the weather and the films being screened.  Many of the 'dailies' [daily industry publications] were bemoaning 'a miserable year' with quite gritty titles In Competition and filling the industry 'Market' screenings and I felt I'd had my fill of sighs and cries after 22 films.

Some sunshine came in the form of getting all frocked-up to attend the world premiere of Indiana Jones and the standing ovation for Steve McQueen for his Bobby Sands inspired film 'Hunger'.

A couple more highlights would also have to be seeing Shane Meadows' new film Somers Town with an appreciative international audience and local Production company Wellington Films' Better Things achieving regular sell out audiences in the 'Critics Week' selection - so I think we can be really quite proud of how the East Midlands is doing internationally!"
