Oscars 2008

The Oscar ceremony took place as usual in Hollywood in February, in spite of fears that the Writer's Strike may have cancelled it.

Being a fan of animated cinema, I was disappointed to see Ratatouille win in
place of Persepolis. I think this sends the wrong message out for the
animated award. By granting Ratatouille the Oscar, the Academy are
practically saying that this is an award for kids films. While I personally
liked Ratatouille, Persepolis is head and shoulders a better film than
either of the other nominees. There is a subtle difference but the Academy
should be recognising the best in animated films not the best animation.
