Stranded in China
QUAD's Deputy Director and Senior Curator are on their way back to Derby after being stranded in China following the cancellation of flights to the UK due to Iceland’s erupting volcano. The two members of staff were due to return to the UK on Sunday 18th April. They are now flying back to the UK via Qatar and Romania.
Stranded in Shanghai, they commented “The situation is very frustrating, however we are using the time productively and have already been able to meet contacts in Shanghai that we would not have otherwise met. China is a wonderful, exciting country and everyone we have met has been very excited about Derby and what QUAD has to offer. Hopefully this will lead to even more exciting partnerships with artists, film makers and arts organisations here in China."
The pair had been in China visiting Chongqing on a cultural mission, researching new artists and spreading the word about Derby and its culture and heritage. There are strong links between QUAD and Chongqing through previous cultural visits. QUAD's Senior Curator was last in Chongqing in May 2009 for an exhibition featuring some work from last years’ FORMAT exhibition.
