4th - 12th February 2012
Launch: Saturday 4th February 6.30pm - late

v.01 is an interactive digital audio visual environment created especially for QUAD Gallery.

Masterminded by TechsQUAD artists, working alongside the chromatic architect Aaron Bradbury, v.01 showcases an interactive audio and video installation that can be manipulated by you, the public.  Via a sculptural control panel visitors are invited to create new compositions that use fully controllable large scale projections and original moving image samples along with a manipulated soundtrack.

Alongside this major interactive installation, you are also invited to experiment with the Excessive Machine, an interactive installation built by ::CHECKTHISPECKER:: featuring custom built projection screens, original visual material and the music of Nottingham born producer/artist Kirk Spencer.

To accompany our TechsQUAD installations in the gallery, we will be screening a number of interactive audio visual projects by leaders in the field of digital media including works from; Angelo Plessas, a contemporary Greek who creates websites that present interactive audio visual experiences  that fuse the iconography of ancient civilizations, surrealist abstractions and modernist references;  Stanza, a British artist who specializes in netart, data sculptures, and networked space whose projects have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, Tate Britain and the Victoria and Albert Museum; Han Hoogerbrugge, a Dutch digital artist, illustrator, animator and creator of the extremely popular Modern Living Neurotica series, represented Denmark in the Venice Biennale 2011 and is regarded as one of the pioneers of internet art since the end of the 1990s; Seaquence, an experiment in musical composition that allows you create and combine musical life-forms that result in an organic, dynamic melody; and The Johnny Cash Project, a unique crowd-sourced music video project honoring the legacy of Johnny Cash.

TechsQUAD is a collaboration between Oli Melia, Rob Newman, Aron Brown, Phil Suddaby, Dean Reilly and Steve Eccles

Closing Event

Loose Connection
Saturday 11th February 7.00 - 9.00pm in The Gallery

The v.01 closing event continues our celebration of sound, vision and collaboration by drawing together some of our regular Connect @ QUAD events in The Gallery to present an open performance of music, digital art, VJing and film.

The night kicks off with The Long Player presenting a full album playback of Cerulean by Baths accompanied by visuals created by the Five Lamps film-making community and Pixel Synthesis.

The tables are turned later in the evening when the audio takes its cues from the visual as local electronic musicians Mender and o_S_k_m collaborate to create a live soundtrack to the stunning vision of Fritz Lang's classic silent film, Metropolis.

Continuing the audio visual experiments into the evening we invite participants and budding visual artists to plug into the 'Open Screen' to interact with and create the night's very own unique VJ set.
