EMVAN Consultation Event
Monday 29th March 2010 – 10:00am – 4:00pm
This is for you.
A consultation event for the East Midlands visual arts sector is taking place at QUAD. We’d like you to be involved.
There is the potential to develop a network for everyone working in the visual arts in the East Midlands. Your ideas and thoughts will shape what the network is and how it works. We want to hear from people working in different roles in organisations as well as individuals.
The event will be opened by Baroness Lola Young. It will provide a space in which we can find out what people think a network for the visual arts might look like and how it could help them. We want to hear what you think the East Midlands is doing well and new ways you think that organisations, galleries, networks, artists and curators could work together.
Your suggestions and ideas will be discussed further at six county meetings that will take place in April and May.
An East Midlands visual arts steering group have been working together since 2007. The group is made up of staff from ten contemporary and historical visual arts organisations. They are The City Gallery, The Collection, Derby Museums & Art Gallery, Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, Hub: National Centre for Craft & Design, New Art Exchange, New Walk Museum, Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery, Nottingham Contemporary and QUAD.
In 2008, we began talking about how the visual arts sector in the East Midlands could be made stronger if organisations worked together as a network. Arts Council England East Midlands are supporting our work to help make this happen as part of their national Turning Point visual arts network. The network’s structure and activities will be determined by the specific needs of the sector in the East Midlands. Our mission statement is ‘to be the voice for the visual arts in the East Midlands’.
