Following six weeks of hard work, 100 groups of 17 people from around Derby have been part of
The17: Slice Through Derby
Renowned artist and musician Bill Drummond was invited to create this unique performance piece to celebrate QUAD and particularly its location in Derby. Drummond was based in the city for six weeks during June and July working on the piece with members of the community.
100 groups from all areas of the city were recruited to take part in the project, which involved singing one note together for five minutes and having a group photograph and video portrait taken.
These 100 separate sound recordings have been mixed together to create one huge piece of choral music. Everyone who took part in the project has been invited to the performance event on the Market Place for the evening of Friday 22nd August, to hear the one and only playback of this recording. On the same night the participants will be QUAD's special guests at a private view reception and personal tour of the new QUAD building, this will give participants the opportunity to view their photograph and film in the exhibition throughout QUAD before the building is open to the general public.
The Performance
Over 1000 voices will be heard in the one and only playback of The17: Slice Through Derby.
The playback will take place between 6.30pm and 7.15pm so arrive at the Market Place in plenty of time to get your position amongst the crowd. If you were a participant of The17 you will have received an invite when you took part in the recording session. Please refer to your invite for the time of your special preview inside the QUAD building. Please be aware that the QUAD building is still a work in progress and certain elements are not complete. You will be given 30 minutes to see throughout the building. Due to the capacity limits of the building there may be some queuing and we therefore advise you to come prepared for bad weather.
