MinecraftLAB: Many Hands Make Lightwork

QUAD and Fermynwoods Contemporary Arts offer an exciting opportunity for exploration and interpretation of a Minecraft build of Rockingham Castle, Northants. Join artist Sarah Gillett to discover the secrets and histories of Rockingham Castle gardens and contribute to a real-life artwork.

'Many hands make lightwork' is an immersive digital artwork set in alternative night-time versions of Rockingham Castle gardens. Grown in Minecraft and Mozilla, the artwork has been designed and built by artists Sarah Gillett and Stuart Moore to explore the very human ways that we traverse landscapes in darkness. Here, fragments of correspondence, geology, astronomy and folklore exist as artefacts to be excavated and examined. During the artwork’s development, audiences will be invited into the gardens to play, before the final artwork is launched for a physical exhibition at Rockingham Castle in 2021.

MinecraftLAB’s are open events as part of QUADs Minecraft programme and focus on specific objectives. This series of workshops focuses on a creative build. If you would like to be first to know about future events, including reserving a place on our MinecraftCLUB waiting list, please email minecraft@derbyquad.co.uk.
