QUAD and Artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley Are Seeking Black Trans People from Across the UK to Take Part in a Day-long Archiving and Mo-Cap Workshop Led by the Artist!

This day-long oral history / motion capture workshop is inspired by the current exhibition in QUAD Gallery by artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley – titled ‘Haunting Alongside Our Shadows’. Danielle’s work is based in historical happening’s, creating video-game inspired artworks that form part of her Black Trans archive to, as the artist states, “record the lives of Black Trans People in the present to imagine our existence in the past through immersive storytelling.”
About the Workshop
QUAD and artist Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley are seeking up to ten (10) Black Trans people to take part in an exciting and hands-on workshop day at QUAD in Derby. Each participant will be paid a fee of £350 to take part, plus travel costs/ expenses.
Danielle will begin by exploring with each participant their personal history and journey, re-telling and sharing stories, before a session where the participant will don a motion-capture suit, with their physical movements recorded. Danielle will combine both the elements of the spoken history and motion capture to produce an artwork that will be deposited into her Black Trans archive, as well as exhibited on screens at QUAD. This project is a partnership between QUAD and The Mechatronic Library, funded by Arts Council England.
