With so many of us in lockdown, self isolating and working from home, with human inter-connections changing - how do we look inwards at ourselves? And how do we look towards the “new normal” following the outbreak of COVID-19?
QUAD invites you to create a digital self-portrait from home. This is for any artist, of any age, anywhere. Perhaps you will make a collage and photograph it; you may make a play-dough sculpture and capture it in an image; maybe you’ll transform a room in your house into a photography studio, or you might develop your design skills by creating a digital collage.
We encourage the use of any mark-making material, be it paint, playdough, embroidery, or collage; wherever your creative interests take you or other digital means such as photography or design software. One rule; it must be a digital work that could be printed.
Selected submissions will be shared in a digital showcase and possible print exhibition at QUAD when we safely open our doors again, we will also share the works digitally. Works will be selected by QUAD curators and highlighted via our social media channels.
The artwork you share will be a form of reflection on the time that has passed and how that is represented globally.
To get involved:
• Make a self-portrait that can be shared digitally e.g photograph your artwork or use design software.
• Share your submission on Instagram using the hashtag #quadselfportrait

QUAD Self-Portrait: The back story:
This project was inspired by QUAD’s inaugural Self Portrait exhibition, featuring the works of 264 Derbyshire based or born artists and the 100s of artists who submitted their work to our “Big Little-Drop In”, a space to create and hang a self-portrait within the exhibition, that took place from November 2019 - March 2020, just before our doors temporarily closed for the safety of the public.
We have re-created the exhibition format online for people to share self-portraits that are characteristic of the makers, reflecting on identity and their sense of home during a period of isolation.
