Director Wong Kar-wai made his international breakthrough with this film which combines elements of comedy, romance and crime cinema into a unique experience, gorgeously photographed by the acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle. The film follows two broken-hearted policemen and the women they find themselves involved with. In the first tale young cop Takeshi Kaneshiro falls for a mysterious figure in the Hong Kong criminal underworld (Brigitte Lin). Whilst the other tale follows cop Tony Leung, struggling after a break-up, who finds himself getting involved with the girl who regularly serves him at the local lunch counter (Faye Wong).
“Wong's dreamlike tone and Doyle's stunning cinematography make this strange love story a joy to watch” - Empire Magazine.
