Welcoming You Back to QUAD: Important Information for Visitors

Welcome Back: Important Information For Visitors

We’re really excited to re-open our doors on 17 May. You’ll see some changes around the building, but you’ll also still recognise the same friendly and brilliant staff ready to welcome you back. We know you will have lots of questions so below are a few really important changes that you need to know about.

Arriving at QUAD

We may operate a queuing system into the building when necessary to ensure that there is adequate social distancing in our main entrance and foyer.

Complying with Test and Trace systems is a legal requirement in our venue so we ask that all visitors check in using the NHS Covid-19 app when they arrive. We are required to ask each individual visitor over the age of 16 to check in individually. If you do not have a smart device in order to access the app, please check in with a member of our team who will take your contact details. Hospitality settings are subject to enhanced rules for Test and Trace so we are unable to provide service to anyone seated in the café who has not completed Test and Trace check in.

Our Test and Trace procedure and paperwork is GDPR compliant.

The NHS Test and Trace app can be downloaded in advance via the following links:
Apple Store Google Play Store

Face coverings

It is mandatory for everyone to wear a face covering whilst in our building (except for children under the age of 11 and people listed as exempt in the Government guidelines). When seated in the Café bar you will be socially distant from other guests and may remove your face covering. When in the Cinema, your face covering must be worn at all times unless you are eating or drinking. You must wear your face covering at all other times around the building.

All staff will be wearing face coverings at all times.

A face covering is something which safely covers the nose and mouth. You can buy reusable or single-use face coverings. You may also use a scarf, bandana, religious garment or hand-made cloth covering but these must securely fit round the side of the face.

Social distancing

We are asking everyone to observe the 1m+ social distancing rule around all areas of the building. You will see markings on the floor to direct you around the building including a one way system through our corridors and stairways.

Socially distanced seating is in operation in our Café bar and Cinemas.

Tables in the café are spaced 2m apart and guests will be seated by a host.

Reserved seats will be allocated in the Cinema for all screenings. We will only be using alternate rows and groups will be spaced with suitable gaps along each row. Our Cinemas will be running at approximately 30% capacity. Our box office system will allocate seats on a best available basis and we are not currently taking individual seat requests. This is in order to maximise on the space we have available. If you require a particular seat for access needs, please contact our Box Office on 01332 290606 to make your booking.

We will be staggering the start times of our films to minimise queuing and a one way system is in place for our busier screenings, using the front staircase for entrance and the rear staircase for exit. Please follow all signage and directions from staff whilst moving around the building.

Each set of toilets will be operational as one unit. Each block can be used at the same time by individuals within the same group of 6 or group of 2 households. Alternatively they can be used by one single household at a time if you prefer. There are new locks on the main entrance doors which you should use to indicate that the toilet block is engaged once all members of your group are inside. All toilets are now gender neutral meaning that any gender may use whichever toilet block is available. All toilet blocks have cubicles and some also have urinals. Children should always be accompanied by parents or carers from their own household when using the toilets. These measures comply with our safeguarding policy & guidelines.

The lift is limited to members of the same group of 6 or group of 2 households at a time. We ask that it is prioritised for visitors with access needs.

Visiting in groups

Under current restrictions, people can meet up indoors with friends and family you do not live with, either:

•    in a group of up to 6 from any number of households (children and babies of all ages count towards the limit of 6)
•    in a group of any size from up to two households (each household can include an existing support bubble, if eligible)
•    in larger groups of up to 30 outdoors

If you are meeting friends and family, you can make a personal choice on whether to keep your distance from them but you should still be cautious.

The following rules in place throughout QUAD enable us to comply with these restrictions:

•    No more than 6 people or two households at a table inside QUAD’s Café bar. Larger groups may sit together outside on the terrace.
•    Once a booking is made in the cinema, we will automatically create an appropriate social distance around the group. If you would like to sit with friends and family in your group of 6 or group of 2 households, please ensure all tickets are booked at the same time. If you would like to sit in individual households, please make your bookings separately.
•    Whilst moving throughout or using all other areas of the building including the Gallery, toilets and lift, you can make a personal choice about whether to socially distance from those in your group or not. Systems are in place throughout the building to allow for social distancing if you would prefer to do so.
•    Groups of students from schools and universities may visit for educational purposes but we require advance bookings via info@derbyquad.co.uk to ensure capacities are not breached.
•    Please observe the new floor markers and instructions to maintain a social distance from other groups throughout the building

We have increased our cleaning routines around the building, focusing on frequently used touchpoints and adding in new procedures such as a fogging machine to disinfect the Cinemas between every screening and other high use areas around the building.

Hand sanitiser stations and hand washing facilities are available at multiple locations around the building and we encourage you to use these as you move through different areas.

All of our spaces are ventilated with fresh air and controlled by an automated air handling system. We have made adjustments to the controls and settings in the air handling system to ensure that more fresh air is frequently circulating in all spaces. We do not have any air conditioning units in the building except for in our Digital Studio.

Booking tickets

We are encouraging everyone to book cinema and event tickets in advance via our website or over the phone (01332 290606). This will ease queuing when entering and moving through the building.

You will be sent an e-ticket for all online and phone bookings and can then head straight up to the Cinema when you arrive. If you book on the phone but don’t have an email address, you can collect your tickets at Box Office when you arrive. All tickets have a barcode which enable contactless scanning with our cinema ushers.

Café bar

Tables in the Café bar can be pre-booked by phoning 01332 290606 from 17th May onwards. Alternatively you can come in on the day and available tables will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. When you arrive a member of our café team will seat you. Orders can be placed on our new mobile app or with a member of staff.

If you are ordering food or drink to takeaway into the cinema, you will be directed to our takeaway service area to place and receive your order. Cinema customers may only consume takeaway food and drink purchases once seated in the cinema.

To order using the new app please download it to your mobile device from the Google Play Store or from the Apple App store. If you would like assistance using the app, please ask a member of our team.

QUAD Café bar will close by 9pm, last orders for food will be at 8pm.

Unfortunately we are not currently able to serve drinks into reusable cups.

Our Gallery will re-open with brand new exhibitions as part of FORMAT Photography Festival. Black Country Dada 1969 – 1990 is an autobiographical survey of the early work of FORMAT Patron and artist Brian Griffin, one of the UK’s most influential photographers.

Famous Internet Sites is by artist Zou Jingyao, curated by Luo Dawei, with film and photography examining places in China made famous by internet and flash-mob exhibitions. Presented in partnership with Lishui Photo.

Here, There and Everywhere features work by artists Anthony Bila (South Africa), Uzoma Chidumaga Orji (Nigeria) and Sipho Gongxeka (South Africa), selected in collaboration with the African Artists Foundation, Nigeria, for their visionary work dealing with complex, socio-political issues can be viewed throughout QUAD’s Extra Gallery Spaces.

All of our exhibitions are viewable without any physical interaction and all exhibition information texts will be displayed on the walls.

You do not need to book a ticket to view our exhibitions. The capacity of the Gallery has been reduced and entry will be managed by our staff. Once capacity has been reached we will operate a queue with one in, one out admission.

You can also enjoy our 20 gallery multiplayer venue online, exploring exhibitions featuring over 160 international artists and #massisolationFORMAT. Visit https://format.newart.city

We will continue to deliver a range of online workshops for children, young people, families and adults. We will also be risk assessing how and when we will be able to deliver workshops in the building. Keep up to date with our opportunities to take part by:

· Signing up QUAD’s mailing list
· Signing up to our parents’ and young people’s newsletter
· Looking through the list of activities in our Get Creative section

Please use contactless payments wherever possible. Not only does this help us to reduce the spread of Covid-19, it also supports us as a charity. It costs us approximately £10,000 per year to securely handle and process cash through our organisation. At a time when every penny counts towards our survival, anything we can do to reduce this cost is essential. We have now installed an additional contactless payment point for our cinema snacks on the second floor.

New car parking offers

We’ve been working with the Parking Services Team at Derby City Council to introduce some fantastic parking offers for QUAD visitors. We now have a ticket validator offering a flat rate of £2.50 for all day parking in either Assembly Rooms, Chapel Street or Bold Lane multi-storey car parks. Just bring your park card to Box Office for validation and we will apply the discount. Please note, this offer is only available for QUAD visitors.

We also have an offer for customers to pre-book on street parking when buying tickets online. The offer covers 4 hours for £2.70 to park on Derwent Street, Full Street, Queen Street, Exeter Place, Stuart Street or St Mary’s Gate. Follow the link on your confirmation email to complete your parking reservation.

Temporary road closure near QUAD

There is a temporary road closure along Corporation Street from the junction with Derwent Street to Morledge. This section of the road is open to buses, pedal cycles, and taxis only from 7am - 7pm.
