#MassIsolation Reflections: Quarantine Shrine
with QUAD Assistant Curator, Laura O’Leary
QUAD’s Programme Team are sharing highlights from FORMAT’s mass-isolation project @massisolationformat that shows images and experiences shared during the lockdown due to Covid-19.
Lighting a candle comes with an intention, be it relaxation, ceremony or comemorance. Here, we have a lit baby-pink candle, a brightly coloured blue and red candle holder - made from playdough, juicy-orange tangerine segments, a bouncy ball, a lighter, a chomped apple and some graphically-pleasing matches. This shrine is playful, bouncy and soft. It is Lisa’s Yang’s Quarantine Shrine. Demonstrated here during this time of loss is how we have the time to look into ourselves and see what we find. This image gives me hope that the global creative communities are buoyant amidst these waves of ‘stay-in, save-lives’ and the aftershock it brings. My friend recently said to me, "feel close to yourself and you'll feel stronger than ever". As I scroll through Lisa Yang’s visual diary on her Instagram feed, I get that sense of searching for the light amidst the heartache. - Laura O’Leary, QUAD Assistant Curator
