ANIM18 VR Gallery: Open Call for 3D Animations

31 August 2018
QUAD is excited to announce that in partnership with Anim18, we are seeking submissions from artists to exhibit 3D animated work as part of a collection in a VR gallery space.  The Anim18 VR Gallery will form part of the Anim18 programme, which runs from now until November and aims to showcase, celebrate and generate renewed interest in British animation. The gallery will be accessible to audiences at Derby QUAD, online and at participating venues across the UK.

To complement 2D animations already sourced for display in the virtual space, we are looking for a 3D animated work to exhibit.  This work can be situated in the space or be able to guide the audience around the different areas (railed) and be representative of one of the following Anim18 Strands;
- Politics & Persuasion – Animations with a political or persuasive message.
- Young at Heart – Capturing a youthful spirit, childhood favourites, or intergenerational appeal.
- Connections – Tracing British stories in international animation, and showcasing collaboration.

The 3D animated work can be new or existing, and can be realistic, figurative or abstract, but must;
- be suitable for all audiences
- work in the UE4 engine
- include all usable textures

Work will be selected to best complement the collection on display in the virtual space.

These works will be on display at QUAD as part of a season of VR, which will include work by Rebecca Allen, Zane Zelmene and Leila Johnston 10 Nov 2018 – 9 Feb 2019.

There is a modest budget for this exhibition that will include an artist fee of £100, as well as travel (UK) and accommodation to the opening event of the season of VR.

Please submit applications via email to John Whall, QUAD Digital Participation Curator and include the following:
- Drop Box link to all files
- Short artist statement (up to 200 words)
- CV and website link (if applicable)
- Statement on how art work relates to celebrating British animation and the key stands of Anim18 (Up to 200 words)
- 3-6 images of your work including title, date and medium. This can be completed renders or screen shots.
- Files must be submitted as fbx or .obj formats and have a fully orientated and hierarchised rig.

We highly recommend that your work is tested in the UE4 engine prior to submission. Any work that does not operate in the engine will not be selected.

Closing date: Midnight Monday 24th September

Artists will be selected by a panel from QUAD and Anim18.  Selected artists will be notified by email by: 5pm Friday 5th October.
