Smith Partnership: Last Tuesday Event

To create an exciting alternative to the Smith Partnerships standard ‘First Tuesday’ monthly networking event- to include an Olympic themed WII event and a Barbecue supper.


The Solution
After much consultation with the Smiths Partnership representative, the events team put together an Olympic themed WII tournament with selected teams competing for an array of awards – most supplied by QUAD. A main console was set up on the cinematic sized screen with an additional console alongside for those all important practice shots. Other games including ‘Make a Mascot’ from play dough and a general ‘Olympic’ knowledge quiz were included as an alternative to the WII consoles . Members of the events team were present on the night, as Hosts, to assist guests unfamiliar with console gaming and to produce unbiased final score for the teams. The Barbecue supper and award ceremony were held on QUAD’s terrace and made great use of QUAD’s outdoor space on a glorious sunny day. The terrace lent itself very well to the occasion decorated with flags from the Olympic countries, and proved that you don’t need a large rural setting to create a successful open air event. The catering team produced an array of more sophisticated barbecue foods alongside the traditional burger.

Planning Control

Due to the closure and refurbishment of the Council House, Derby City Council asked QUAD to provide space for their monthly Planning Control Meetings. The event is recorded via video camera for public review online and therefore there was a extensive technical requirement alongside the basic event


The Solution
The events team worked together with the client to recreate the Planning Control Meeting within the Box, which included setting up tables in horseshoe shape for the councillors and theatre seating for the public. QUAD’s very own TECH:SQUAD worked closely with the client to ensure the comprehensive support for each event, projection of proposed plans onto the cinema screen and film recording of the whole meeting, which is uploaded monthly onto the Derby City Council website.

University of Derby: Annual Film & Video Degree Shows

To work with the graduating students of the Film & Video degree to present their final film projects to the general public, peers and industry guests.


The Solution
TECH:SQUAD played a key role in supporting the students for this event, they worked in both a ‘hands on’ and advisory capacity to ensure that each of the students films were of a consistent high quality for screening. The event team and front of house teams worked closely to ensure this potentially busy event ran smoothly throughout this very busy annual event.

SERCO National Leadership Conference


To work closely with the SERCO events team to facilitate a National Leadership Conference for 100 delegates from across the country. The conference lasted all day and required set up from the day before to ensure all the AV, including several different music clips, short videos and presentations ran seamlessly. 

Our cinema provided the ideal location for the delivery of the presentations throughout the conference with a large stage, comfy, tiered seats, great AV and a cinema size screen. We enabled the organisers to feel comfortable with the arrangements by running through all the tech and presentations in the space the day before.  Three technicians were on hand in the run up to the conference and throughout the day to ensure the best possible level of AV and customer service. Fortunately the cinema quality screen, projection facilities, built in speakers and technical experts put clients minds at rest. Presenters could also use the meeting room the day prior to the conference to run through presentations and we set up a tab at the bar so they could eat flexibly around their work.
On the day of the conference a team of caterers, event duty managers and technicians were on hand to ensure everything was set up perfectly from the promotional banners, to the building signage, to the registration area. When guests arrived with coats or suitcases we were able to securely store these for the day. Once guests were registered they were welcomed to the Box, with stunning views over the Market Place and plenty or space for networking and comfy sofas for chatting. Guests were able to take advantage of our free Wi-Fi. The event ran smoothly and to schedule throughout the day with much positive feedback about how comfortable the seats were and how delicious the catering was. The team was on hand to ensure any need was met throughout the duration of the day.
