Call for Creatives

19 July 2017

Lightseekers are looking to work in collaboration with individuals or groups to create a series of art and crafts objects, using reclaimed materials. You will work with metal, wood and textiles to make sculptural objects, inspired by Derbyshire’s pre and post industrial landscape.

Cost: FREE

Background:
In this new project commissioned by QUAD, Lightseekers focuses on the region of Derbyshire and its localised history of art and craft production.

The project facilitates space for skill sharing and knowledge exchange through a series of intergenerational, intercultural workshops. The project provokes reflection on the skilled production of utilitarian objects and artisanal craftsmanship during the pre-industrialised period. The project explores the loss of community and individual identity, during an intense period of industrial change, when new communities arrived to serve within the textiles and hosiery mills and consequently settled.

Working closely with the residents of Derbyshire, dialogues are created to foster better understanding between disparate groups, while encouraging new relationships and friendships across communities.

Workshops will take place between August – Sept and selected works will be displayed within QUAD Extra Gallery Spaces between: 29th September – 19th November 2017.
