Easter events for Families and Young People

See what's coming up for families and young people over the Easter break at QUAD...

FORMAT 360 Degree Photo Walks
, for anyone aged ten and above, offers an opportunity to explore the FORMAT International Photography Festival and get hints and tips on taking great photographs, as well as inspiration from the artworks on display. Led by local Photography Artist Pierce Starre, who will be capturing 360 degree images to join in with. FORMAT 360 Degree Photo Walks take place every Saturday in April (1st, 8th, 12th & 19th April) from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, the walks are free but booking is advised. 

For children aged seven to eleven years KidsQUAD Photography Club Digital Habitats is a two-day workshop using digital drawing and digital photography techniques to make artworks on the theme of Habitat. KidsQUAD Digital Habitats takes place on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th April, the workshop runs from 10:30am to 12:30pm, the cost £22.00 for both sessions and children can be left unaccompanied, booking is essential. 
DigisQUAD Creative Photoshop is a workshop for young people aged 12-16 years to experiment with layers, textures and filters to turn images and text into digital artwork based on the theme of Habitat. DigisQUAD Creative Photoshop takes place on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th April, the workshop runs from 1:30pm to 4:30pm the cost is £33.00 for both sessions and children caan be left unaccompanied, booking is essential. 

Minecraft Habitat with BlockBuilders, suitable for those aged eight to fourteen, is a workshop using the video game phenomenon Minecraft. Digital design group Blockbuilders will lead the workshop, offering a chance to re-imagine the local habitat, brick by brick! Minecraft Habitat with BlockBuilders takes place in QUAD on Wednesday 12th April, 10:30am to 4:00pm. The price is £35 and pre-booking is essential. Lunch is not provided and it is recommended that participants bring their own packed lunch. 

Blockbuilders will also be delivering an inter-generational workshop in QUAD, Exploring the Past and Future with Minecraft open to all ages. BlockBuilders have created a detailed model of Derby using geo-spatial data, and, using Minecraft and photographs, the map will be adapted by participants to make conversations around the past, present, and future of the city. Recommended for participants both young and old, for example grandparents and grandchildren, no prior knowledge of Minecraft is required to take part! Exploring the Past and Future with Minecraft takes place in QUAD on Thursday 13th April, from 10:30am to 1:00pm or 2:00pm to 4:30pm. Both workshops are free but pre-booking is essential. 

For those aged 14-25, there are two free workshops with professional photographers: An Analogue workshop with Dan Wheeler from The Photo Parlour takes place on Thursday 13th April from 10:30am to 4:00pm. Photostories with photographer Jon Legge takes place on Friday 21st April from 10:30am to 4:00pm. To book for either workshops, please contact sandrag@derbyquad.co.uk  

Photographic Coding explores the world of photographic code and processing, run by electronic artist and developer Ashley James Brown. Discover how to create your own effects beyond the constrains of traditional software using code for photography or image editing using interactive code. The workshop is suitable for ages fourteen and above, but younger children can attend if accompanied by an adult. Photographic Coding takes place in QUAD on Saturday 15th April, from 11:00am to 1:30pm the cost is £6 per person and pre-booking is recommended. 

Plus there are free worksheets for children available from the FORMAT desk near Box Office, as well as Easter colouring sheets available throughout the holiday - draw an Easter bunny and get a free mini chocolate egg!

FORMAT International Photography Festival takes place in Derby from 25th March to 23rd April, and exhibitions are on display in QUAD Gallery until 11th June 2017. QUAD Gallery is open daily from 11:00am to 5:00pm, also be open late until 9:00pm on Thursdays 13th and 20th April. Opening times of other FORMAT venues varies.
