Events as part of National Mental Health Awareness Week

04 May 2018
As part of national Mental Health Awareness Week, (14th - 20th May 2018) QUAD will be hosting a Book Launch and Discovery Event with Derbyshire Mind. Karen Clegg will launch her inspiring book of poetry and art, created as she moved through diagnoses, treatment and recovery from cancer, there will also be a chance to find out about Derbyshire Mind’s activities and services.

Book Launch and Discovery Event with Derbyshire Mind takes place in QUAD on Thursday 17th May from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, the drop-in event is free and open to anyone to attend.

Our current exhibition, ‘Battle Against Stigma' is intended to give some insight into the issue of adjustment disorder and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). It features photographs, films, emails from former service personnel that recount photographer Mark Neville’s own personal experience. Mark suffered from PTSD himself after being sent out to Helmand in 2011 as an official war artist. Paired with films, photographs and e-mails relating to Neville’s Helmand experience, are photographs and video interviews he made in Ukraine in 2017. The exhibition will connect with veterans, artists, academics, charities and policy makers, uniting the different sectors of society necessary to address improved mental healthcare for service personnel. Battle Against Stigma is free to visit and can be seen in QUAD Gallery until 10th June.

There will be a special tour of the exhibition with staff from QUAD and Derbyshire Mind as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. The informal, thoughtful tour of Mark Neville's exhibition will be focusing on the issues of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Mindful Gallery Tour: Battle Against Stigma is free and open to anyone to attend, and takes place on Thursday 17th May, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

The events are part of QUADs 'Year of Wellbeing' which will be celebrated with exhibitions and special events throughout 2018, culminating in March 2019. Transforming lives through participation in arts and film is one of QUAD’s founding principles. Offering exhibitions, screenings and wide-ranging education and participation activities, the organisation is proud of its contribution to arts and health practice.
