Artist Statement and bio:

I’m a disabled queer self-portrait artist and curator, producing art from the same 2 by 1.5 metre space; my bed. I’ve been ill since childhood, and for the last six years my health has confined me to bed almost every day.

My only childhood and imaginary friend “Daisy” is central to my practice. Her presence manifests in my work through my frequent inclusion of daisy flowers upon my skin. To escape childhood trauma, myself and Daisy created Daisyland, a magical Utopia we entered through a Fairy-Door on my bedroom wall.

Daisyland formed the basis of my Arts Council DYCP funded project ‘Daisyland: A Queer Utopia and Curatorial Platform’.

DYCP enabled me to make Daisyland a reality. Through VR world building I’ve transformed Daisyland into a virtual gallery space, where I hope to eventually exhibit the work of other Disabled and Neurodiverse artists.

During my residency I will take you on a tour of Daisyland. You will visit my childhood bedroom, meet the Wolf’s who keep Daisyland safe, and see the critically endangered ‘Tooth flies’.

The biggest barrier to my career is my inability to be physically present. ‘Daisyland’ brings new liveness and immersion to my work, enabling me to break free from my restrictive bed.
