Part of QUAD’s Time-Travel Season.
Exhibition around QUAD Extra Gallery Spaces
Exhibiting Artists: Richard Birkin, Christopher Boote, Jesc Bunyard, Wayne Burrows, Joseph Carr & Caroline McNally, Sonia D’Argenzio, Nick Hersey, Tim Shore and Darn Thorn.
Gazing up toward the endless possibilities and expanse of the universe, Event Horizon explores concepts of time-travel and space-time, drawing inspiration from scientific theories and popular culture specifically relating to black holes and wormholes. Event Horizon is an exhibition of creative responses to a hypothetical question: “If the improbable were possible and you leapt into a black hole or a wormhole – the cosmos’ equivalents of trapdoors and hidden doorways that cut through the fabric of space-time – how do you envisage this experience?”
Works for the exhibition were gathered through a local, national and international open-call process, presenting explorations and responses to the main theme from contemporary artists that will transform QUAD’s Extra Gallery Spaces.
Event Horizon Artist Residency: Nick Hersey
Prior to and during the Event Horizon exhibition, Derbyshire-based artist Nick Hersey will be in residence at QUAD. He will be seeking out conversations and exchanges, exploring ideas and interpretations surrounding the exhibition themes. Nick will produce original artworks, inspired by these responses.
From the 27th September for the duration of the exhibition, Nick will be hosting regular drop-in sessions on Mondays and is available for participatory activities throughout the exhibition.
Nick Hersey is also available for a number of educational workshops for Schools, Colleges and Universities. Join our Artist in Residence, Nick Hersey, in the gallery for a space themed workshop based around literacy, maths or science. Click here for further details.
