Anthony Southwell Lecture

As part of QUAD's Time-Travel Season.   Here Be Monsters: The Science Behind Black Holes A lecture by Anthony Southwell from the Derby and District Astronomical Society   Saturday 16 November, 6:00pm, QUAD Gallery. FREE (booking required)   Part of QUAD's Time-Travel season. Join Anthony Southwell for a fascinating talk about Black Holes, and how these astronomical enigmas are depicted in relation to time-travel in Hollywood movies, and the real science behind them.   Anthony will take you on a journey to find out how Black Holes form, where they are to be found in the Universe and how they ‘behave’. Anthony will also show what it would be like to ‘fall’ into a Black Hole; are you destroyed, or do you come out somewhere else in the Universe or somewhere else in time? So, why not come along for the ride? And journey to one of the real monsters of the Universe, where the laws of Physics break down and time and space have no meaning.   Anthony Southwell is the Secretary of the Derby and District Astronomical Society (DDAS) and has been a member since 1987. During his time in the DDAS Anthony has held several committee positions, Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Editor of the Society’s Journal, and his current Committee position, Secretary. Anthony has over the years presented a number of lectures to the DDAS, other astronomical societies and public groups. These lectures have included such topics as the Apollo Lunar Landing Programme, the exploration of the Solar System, the history of Astronomy and Cosmology.
