Memory Season Launch Night & Exhibitions Opening Event

Friday 14 June 2013

Join us as we officially launch QUAD’s new Memory Season and the exhibitions A Universal Archive: William Kentridge as Printmaker in QUAD Gallery and Transience in QUAD Extra Gallery Spaces.

Speeches to launch the exhibitions will begin at 7:00pm in the Gallery, including an introduction to A Universal Archive: William Kentridge as Printmaker by Roger Malbert, Senior Curator Hayward Touring.
Derby based three times World Memory Champion Ben Pridmore will give a special performance in the Gallery following the speeches to demonstrate his amazing memory skills. Ben’s many feats include memorising a pack of cards in 24.97 seconds, and 4140 binary digits (1s and 0s) in 30 minutes.
'And on the conveyor belt tonight...' supported by local businesses, we will be testing participants’ powers of recollection in a 60-second conveyor-belt memory challenge. Whoever remembers the most in the fastest time gets to take all of the prizes home! With prizes worth over £500 up for grabs, how many do you think you can remember?
Derby on Board Games will present a selection of memory themed board games for young and old in the Participation Space, alongside a series of roving ‘memory trays’ by QUAD’S Advocates.
Anthony Jacquin will mingle with visitors throughout the evening to showcase his hypnosis skills, and how he can temporarily wipe people’s memories!
In the café bar All the Right Notes present Audio-Biographical – a night of records and memories where you can bring along a piece of your musical history to play in the bar (vinyl preferred but there will be CD & Cassette Decks and Spotify available too) and tell us what memory you associate with that record. We’ll be creating a gallery of personal, musical diaries on the night by taking a Polaroid of you holding your record, which you can then inscribe with your memories – just like your own personal liner notes.
