Creative Digital Activities for 7-11 year olds

QUAD’s Digital Artist in Residence, Ashley James Brown will also be hosting Creative Digital Activities for 7-11 year olds during half-term. Join Ashley to experiment and get creative with digital technology.

Building Computer Games from (with) Scratch - Thursday 2nd June from 10:30am - 12:30pm, FREE

A chance to learn how to use the popular visual programming language Scratch to create new games. Inspired by games such as Flappy Bird, PacMan and Crossy Road, young people will develop skills in programming, interactivity and game design. All games will be shared on the web for friends, family and the world to play with.

Crafty Robot Racer Bugs - Thursday 2nd June from 1:00pm - 3:00pm, £2.50 (to cover costs)

A session around rebuilding technology for new purposes to create our own Hex Bug style racing drawing machines that will leave neon trails behind as they travel across the paper covered floor! The random generative artworks created by our robot army of drawing machines will go on display on QUAD blog. Devices will be taken home to keep afterwards.

PLEASE NOTE: if participants are staying for both the morning and afternoon sessions on 2nd June, parents must collect and supervise them during the lunchtime break, between 12:30pm and 1:00pm.

Marvellous Machines - Friday 3rd June from 10:30am - 3:00pm, FREE

Combining coding, digital technology and cardboard crafting skills to build games, contraptions, machines and robots to perform simple, fun and outrageously silly tasks. Think Caines Arcade meets Rude Goldberg with extra added technology, lights, and sound. Work with LittleBits, LEGO and various cardboard and craft materials to construct our marvellous machines throughout the day. Code lighting systems, build pinball machines, mega led superhero style arm blasters, scribbling devices, 3D rotating waving signs, tickle machines, nodding cats, noisy robots and more. At the end of the workshop there will be a sharing event to showcase the contraptions to our invited audience of parents and friends.

PLEASE NOTE: participants will need to bring a packed lunch for this session.
