“As stark, brilliant and unforgiving as a halogen light” ★★★★★ - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Anne (Isabelle Huppert) is the chatelaine of both her family’s estate and lucrative business, having inherited it from her father Georges (Jean-Louis Trintignant) – who is suffering from dementia and occupies a Lear-esque place in their household, waited on by long-suffering Moroccan servants.

A portrait of a dysfunctional family; Anne’s engagement to British lawyer (Toby Jones), her deadbeat son Pierre (Franz Rogowski), her secretive brother Thomas (Mathieu Kassovitz) and the mysteriously self-possessed Eve (Fantine Harduin), whose mother is in hospital.

A blistering satire of the haute-bourgeoise, wrought by master of cinema, Michael Haneke (Amour, The White Ribbon) exploiting his familiar themes of familial dysfunction and psychological violence; the horror of death and the obsession with surveillance – to brilliant effect.
