“A boxing drama with a difference, Journeyman packs a powerful punch” ★★★★ - Empire

Actor-director-writer (and QUAD Patron) Paddy Considine’s searing drama, the follow up to his 2011 feature debut Tyrannosaur, sees him star as a journeyman boxer.

Matty Burton (Considine) is a middleweight boxing world champion is nearing the end of his career. He needs to make money before he gets out of the game to secure a future for his wife Emma (new Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker) and their baby daughter. Facing a brash, controversy-courting opponent in his last bout, it proves a titanic battle and afterwards, he collapses at home. Awakening from a coma, he battles a loss of memory and personality changes and must try to piece his new life and new self together as his old world disappears.

A moving story of loss, identity and adversity, Considine’s film is rooted in place, authentic and eloquent on the physical losses and emotional difficulties but also the gains that may result from life-changing injury.
Also screening for Midweek Treat.
