Award Nomination for QUAD's Abbie Canning

We’re delighted that QClub Programme Curator Abbie Canning has been nominated for The Kevin Ryan Creative Community Hero Award, part of the Be Mighty Be Creative Awards, an annual awards event hosted by Arts Council England bridge organisation The Mighty Creatives.

The Kevin Ryan Creative Community Hero Award has been set up in memory of Kevin Ryan, who died earlier this year following a short illness. Kevin was the successful CEO of Charnwood Arts, a community arts organisation based in Loughborough and friend of QUAD and The FORMAT International Photography Festival.

Abbie was nominated for this award for her exceptional work supporting QClub members during lockdown, including obtaining new equipment for those not able to join in online sessions, as well as going above and beyond for young people whose stresses and anxieties were elevated during this very confusing time.

Abbie will join others in a special evening celebration and awards presentation on the 25th November 2020 where the winner of this award will be announced. The evening will be a celebration of the work that The Mighty Creatives supports with Awards being presented across 11 awards categories. This event’s programme will include guest speakers and performers, and will bring together the cultural, education and business sectors to celebrate the endeavours of the regions finalists.

Digital Participation Curator John Whall says,

“We’re incredibly proud of the work Abbie achieves with QClub and the young people involved, to many of which QClub is their only creative and social interaction. She continues to go above and beyond to ensure that those with autism and other support needs have an outlet for their creativity and feel supported.

We are also very grateful to Children in Need for their continued support, which allows us to bring projects like QClub to those who need it”.
