October Half Term at QUAD

QUAD has lots for families and young people to do this October half-term with films and workshops for all ages.

Craft for families with children aged three and above

Make and Take are QUAD’s popular family friendly artist-led creative sessions suitable for families with children of ages three and above. Choose from a range of craft materials to make whatever you want and take it away afterwards. Taking place in QUAD, Make & Take will run as 30 minute, one family group sessions, family groups can be up to 6 people (children and parents/carers), and parents/carers will be required to be active in the session. Make and Take sessions are free and take place in QUAD on Monday 26th October and Friday 30th October, between 10:00am and 4:00pm, advance booking is essential.

Minecraft sessions taking place online and suitable for ages 8 – 14

MinecraftLAB: Map Art is a chance to join QUAD Minecraft staff in creating pixel map art, inspired by QUAD’s current exhibition How We Make Meaning. Create 2D or 3D art, join together through aerial views to replicate the exhibited works.

MinecraftLAB: Map Art takes place online, on Saturday 24th October, 1:30pm to 4:00pm, advance booking is essential, and tickets are: £5.

MinecraftLAB: Halloween Special is a Halloween themed MinecraftLAB. Use creepy creativity to spook, scare and conjure in this creative session. Will you trick or treat?

MinecraftLABs are open events as part of QUADs Minecraft programme and focus on specific objectives. This series of workshops focuses on a creative build. Technical Requirements are a PC or Mac that can run JAVA Minecraft will be required for this session.  If you require a log in to access Minecraft – and do not have your own account – please ensure you state this upon booking. Alongside this session we will be hosting an online audio conference to enable children and young people to clearly follow instructions and promptly ask questions to the Admin. Online craft for ages 7-11 years

KidsQUAD Half Term Sculpture online Workshop will be a 90 minute Zoom workshop (via Zoom) with artist Helen Jackson. Join Helen to take inspiration from famous sculptors, like Alberto Giacometti, to create your own group of mini sculptures. A pack of materials and joining instructions will be sent out prior to the workshop In order to access the session, you will need the following equipment and materials: a tablet, PC or laptop with the Zoom app downloaded, scissors and newspaper. We request that at least one parent/carer or adult is present with your child during the workshop. Half Term KidsQUAD sculpture workshop takes place on Thursday 29th October, from 10:30am to 12:00 noon. Advance booking is essential, before 21st October so we can send out materials and joining instructions, and tickets are: £5.

Cinema for families with all ages

In QUAD Cinemas, family film entertainment includes The Secret Garden (PG), Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite (U) and Max Winslow And The House Of Secrets (12A) screening as part of QUAD’s ‘Cine Kids’ programme. Cine Kids are family focused film screenings every weekend and during the school holidays and all tickets are £4.00 for Cine Kids Club members (which includes the whole family). Membership is free and available from QUAD Box Office to families with children under sixteen. The Secret Garden (PG) is an adaptation of the classic family novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Mary Lennox (Dixie Egerickx) is a troubled, sickly, orphaned 10-year-old girl, sent to live with an uncle after her parents died in a cholera outbreak in India. Initially sour and rude, Mary begins to explore the grounds of her uncle’s estate and befriends a robin. Mary hears of a locked-away, hidden garden. Together with the robin, she finds the key and enters the garden, discovering it to be more magical than she could have ever imagined. Starring Colin Firth as Mary’s Uncle and Julie Waters as Mrs Medlock. In Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite, the second sequel in the Cats And Dogs series, a supervillain parrot hatches a devious scheme to break the long-standing truce between cats and dogs. Max Winslow And The House Of Secrets (12A) follows five teens who are invited to the home of eccentric billionaire to compete in a game to win his mansion. The night takes a dark turn when they become trapped in the house and are forced to face off against each other and an evil AI entity who controls everything in the house including their fate.

The Secret Garden (PG) and Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite (U) screen daily in QUAD from Friday 23rd to Thursday 29th October. Max Winslow And The House Of Secrets (12A) screens daily from 30th October to 5th November.


These screenings are ‘Fantastic For Families’ as accredited by Derby’s Family Arts Network.
