QUAD in Derby will be screening two film and discussion events in October

QUAD in Derby will be screening two film and discussion events in October which touch on the themes of Immigration and Climate change.

Hostile follows the lives of members of the Windrush generation, international students, and highly-skilled workers who have been affected by decades of hostile immigration policies. Told through the stories of four participants from Black and Asian backgrounds, the film reveals the impact of the evolving ‘hostile environment’ – a term used by the UK government in 2012 to illustrate the atmosphere they wanted to create for migrants, with the intention of provoking them to leave of their own accord. Hostile is screening as a Derby Peace Week event and Director Sonita Gale will be in QUAD for a post screening Q&A and discussion. Hostile (12A) + Director Q&A takes place in QUAD on Monday 24th October at 6pm. https://www.derbyquad.co.uk/Hostile

Conscientious Protectors is a documentary looking at the environmental campaign protest group Extinction Rebellion. In April 2019, Extinction Rebellion brought central London to a dramatic halt in an attempt to engage the UK Government on climate change. This documentary reveals how they did it and also explores the resolve of the protestors. Conscientious Protectors will be followed by a discussion about the climate movement and what we can do chaired by the Derby Climate Coalition. Conscientious Protectors (15) + post screening discussion takes place on Thursday 27th October at 6pm. https://www.derbyquad.co.uk/ConscientiousProtectors
