QUAD in Derby has family workshops and films for October half-term

QUAD has plenty of activities and events this half-term to keep families, children and young people entertained.

As part of the national Family Arts Festival QUAD presents a creative session for ages five and above focused around the popular game Minecraft. Minecraft Families takes place on Saturday 27th October from 2:30pm to 4:30pm, the cost is £3.50 per family member and pre-booking is recommended. Suitable for all ages, QUAD’s popular Make and Take Day is a free, artist-led session to make whatever you want, with whatever materials are available. Your imagination awaits! Make and Take Day takes place on Monday 29th October, families can just drop in from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

For ages eight to sixteen years, MinecraftLAB: Virtually Unreal workshop is a chance to use Minecraft’s creative tools and collaborate with others in building a world that could only exist in Minecraft and build the impossible! MinecraftLAB: Virtually Unreal takes place on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd November, from 10:00am to 12:30pm, the cost is £8 per session, or £14 for both and booking is recommended.

‘KidsQUAD’ is a programme of creative activities for children aged seven to eleven years, and over half term there is a two-day workshop to ‘Make your own avatar!’ Join QUAD artists to create a character using drawing and clay modelling, then transform your model into a 3D digital avatar. KidsQUAD: Make your own avatar!’ takes place on Monday 29th & Tuesday 30th October, taking place from 10:30am to 12:30pm, the cost is £22.00 for both sessions and booking is recommended.

In QUAD Cinemas, the new film The House With A Clock In Its Walls is a magical adventure telling the spine-tingling tale of 10-year-old Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house with a mysterious tick-tocking heart.  But his new town’s sleepy façade jolts to life with a secret world of warlocks and witches when Lewis accidentally awakens the dead. Starring Jack Black & Cate Blanchett alongside Kyle MacLachlan, Colleen Camp, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Vanessa Anne Williams and Sunny Suljic.Cine Kids: The House With A Clock In Its Walls (12A) screens from Friday 26th October to Thursday 1st November. QUAD’s ‘Cine Kids’ are family focused film screenings every weekend and during the school holidays. All tickets are £3.50 for Cine Kids Club members (which includes the whole family and their guests). Membership is free and available from QUAD Box Office or at this page to families with children under sixteen.

This Autumn QUAD is partnering with Derby Cathedral for a programme of cinema screenings in the unique surroundings of the Cathedral nave. During half-term there will be screenings for Halloween, on 31st October, of The Princess Bride (PG) at 5.30pm (doors from 4.45pm) and Frankenstein & Bride of Frankenstein (PG) double bill at 7.45pm (doors are open from 7.15pm). Tickets for these screenings are £13, £11 concessions or £10 for children and those aged under 25 years.
