This Oscar nominated tale, from the same studio as The Secret of The Kells and Song of the Sea, tells the story of a Kabul family during the time of the Taliban's rule in Afghanistan.

The father opposes the government and has taught his daughters to read in direct opposition to the Taliban law. Parvan is the younger daughter and is headstrong with a rich imagination. When the father is thrown in jail, Parvana disguises herself as a boy to take up her father's work as a peddler.
