QUAD, Derby hosts Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme in February

QUAD in Derby hosts a season of the latest films from Japan as part of Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2020 in February. The annual touring film programme brings an exciting showcase of Japanese cinema through the narrative framework of the ways in which people feel ‘happiness’. ‘Happiness is A State of Mind: Joy and Despair in Japanese Cinema’ is a season of ten films takes place in QUAD from 21st to 23rd February.

Taking Flight, which is open until 14th June 2020, has been created by TECH:SQUAD and Firecatcher in partnership with Coventry Transport Museum.

Back by popular demand, DSLR Photography Level 1 course is a five-week course ideal for those who have recently purchased or want to learn more about their digital SLR camera. Designed to demystify the features and gain a basic understanding of light, composition and colour, to be able to use the camera in a more creative way. DSLR Photography Level 1 takes place in QUAD on Mondays from 13th January from 6:15pm to 8:45pm. Course Fees are: £160 or £140 concessions.

QUAD secures £1,200 funding for a public access defibrillator

QUAD secures £1,200 funding for a public access defibrillator

QUAD in Derby have successfully raised £1,200 for a public access defibrillator to go outside the building on Derby’s Market Place.

The £1,200 raised from our crowdfunding callout will be match-funding from a grant by the British Heart Foundation towards an automated external defibrillator (AED) to go on QUAD’s building. The defibrillator will be accessible to the public seven days a week and aims to help make Derby a safer place to live, work and visit.

Artist and QUAD Patron Hetain Patel Wins Jarman Prize

Artist Hetain Patel has won this year’s Film London Jarman Award prize.

Hetain Patel uses humour and the language of popular culture to highlight familiarity within the exotic. He was born in Bolton and currently lives in London and in between spent time working in the East Midlands. He was awarded the prize for two film works, Don’t Look At The Finger (2017), commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella with Manchester Art Gallery and QUAD, and The Jump (2015).
