Black History Month is an annual celebration of the achievements of African and Caribbean communities in the UK that highlights their contributions to economic, cultural and political life. QUAD celebrates and appreciates Black culture and communities all year round, sharing diverse perspectives in its programmes and activities.
FORMAT is delighted to announce an open call for an artist collective to be in residence at QUAD.
The residency will take place between November 2021 and March 2022 including an exhibition in the QUAD Extra Gallery Spaces during our off year, FORMAT22.
This is an opportunity for a UK based artist collective working in digital, lens-based media or photography to develop existing project/s or to realise new work and exhibit as part of the FORMAT22 Off Year programme.
Animate Projects, in partnership with Phoenix and QUAD, invites artists to apply to take part in SENSING, a new programme supporting artists working in animation to develop, produce and exhibit new work for VR/immersive platforms, exploring the sensory, physical + empathetic qualities of immersive tech to the human senses.

This Autumn, we have two unique film courses at QUAD; BFI Film Academy and Talk Cinema.
The BFI Film Academy is a unique course open to young people aged between 16 and 19 years of age who are passionate about film and possibly interested in a career in the film industry.
The course offers a chance to find out more about film industry, develop practical knowledge and skills and gain invaluable experience working alongside industry professionals.
QUAD in Derby is delighted to announce that Vivek Malhotra is the new interim CEO from 13th September.
Mr Malhotra has been recruited following the secondment of Adam Buss to Bid Director for Derby City of Culture.
Part of #ThisIsDerby and Reimagine Derby, QUAD created three brand new music videos in collaboration with Sinfonia Viva, Hubbub Theatre Company and Sam Jordan Films, together with five SEND schools from across Derby.

FORMAT & QUAD are delighted to announce the FUTURE FOCUS OPEN CALL.
FUTURE FOCUS is an Open Call for submissions aimed at graduates from UK based BA Degree courses who graduated in 2020 and 2021 – during the Covid-19 pandemic – who were unable to exhibit their final work, or were limited in opportunities to show work.
From the Open Call 5 Artists will be selected to exhibit their work in QUAD Gallery by the QUAD and FORMAT Curatorial team and a jury of industry experts.
Please note that from 17 September 2021 QUAD will return to full capacity.
The decision has been made based on current Government guidance, customer feedback and the financial needs of the organisation.
All Cinema screenings will revert to unreserved seating except for special and live events.
We will keep some Socially Distanced Cinema screenings in each film run to allow visitors to choose their preference.
Following a national call-out and competitive selection process, Oska Bright Film Festival has selected three cinema exhibition partners for its new UK-wide support programme WELCOME BACK.
The Welcome Back project is designed to aid cinemas to help them become exemplar organisations in the field of welcoming learning-disabled cinema goers to their venues.
