How We Make Meaning features two solo but connected exhibitions by artists Memo Akten in QUAD Gallery one and Mimi Ọnụọha in QUAD Gallery two. I’m Only Human is an online exhibition produced by Animate Projects – in association with QUAD and Phoenix, Leicester – of three new animations that explore what it means to be human, made in the context of a pandemic.
 
Artists Sebastian Buerkner, Kim Noce, and Daksha Patel, take us from an exploration of the internal body, by way of the perceptive connections between our bodies and the world, to our external, social, lives.

FORMAT International Photography Festival is one of the largest contemporary photography biennales in the UK, showcasing both upcoming and established photography talent and reaching international audiences. It relies on a team of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to ensure a great experience for everybody involved.

This year FORMAT takes place from 12th March 2021 - 11th April (TBC) 2021, with launch night taking place on Thursday 11th March 2021.

With QUAD – and QUAD Galleries – temporarily closed we want to share highlights from our current exhibitions. Originally shown online at the close of this year’s Black History Month, ‘In Absentia’ by the Nigeria/ USA artist Mimi Ọnụọha and part of the exhibition ‘How We Make Meaning’ examines how 20,000 black residents of rural Alabama, in the 1900s, had their voices ignored.
